Jane Linders' Black and White Infrared Photography
The etheral quality of black and white infrared film produces moody, other-worldly images. The world does not correspond to the way we see things every day when infrared light is utilized. Water appears pitch black and anything with chlorophyll, such as grass, trees and bushes appear bright white. When coupled with a red filter, an ordinary cloudy sky becomes quite dramatic. This unfamiliar reality give infrared images a sense of viewing a dreamworld. Since infrared light cannot be seen with the naked eye, shooting infrared film requires alot of guess-work. These quietly evocative black and white images offer a strong sense of mystery and wonder, almost a visual poem.
