Lemons, Lantern and Stromboli - 1996 - Ilfochrome Colour Print
The yellow lantern, a beacon of light and guidance, is set against the purest blue of the Mediterranean sea and sky. Intensely dramatic, it is balanced by the delightful dish of lemons, their geometrical equilibrium based on the mysterious volcanic cone of Stromboli which acts as a fulcrum. On the white wall, the colours attain even more intensity and brilliance. This is one of Adam Butler's best selling pictures, and it was awarded the SAAC prize for photography at the Royal Scottish Academy exhibition in 1996.
The Adam Butler Gallery
I have created a virtual gallery on line, allowing visitors to see my images, keep track of my career as a photographer, and to look up some of the Scottish artists who are my friends and whose work I try to promote.
I have stuck to doing a minimalist approach to the design - clear white pages, simple layouts, small scale graphics, and I let the images speak for themselves.
I have not gone in for flashing logos, or any similar feature, as they would only detract from the purity of the graphics.
